Are there any complications from haemorrhoids?

The blood in an enlarged vein may form a clot. If this occurs in an enlarged haemorrhoid it is referred to as a thrombosed haemorrhoid. Thrombosed haemorrhoids are very painful.

Severe bleeding may also occur. This is unusual but may cause anaemia if the bleeding is prolonged.
